Historic Fabric, New Life
The greatest challenge facing the project team was the building’s compromised structural condition, caused by severe weather and previous alterations. Multiple hurricanes and winter storms contributed to water-damaged timber framing and a failing east-facing wall, requiring partial demolition and replacement.
The project team installed structural shoring throughout demolition and construction so historic beams could remain in place and supported while portions of the building’s main structure were stabilized and rebuilt.
Preservation of Original Materials
Original Savannah Grey brick and historic timber framing were carefully preserved wherever possible. On the north façade, masonry was removed with precision so new window openings could be created without losing the character of the original wall; oversized cuts allowed the existing brick to be reinstalled after the openings were formed, with rollock and soldier courses used to complete the restored composition.
Timber beams stamped by the Savannah Planning Company were retained in place after surrounding damaged material was removed, protecting the building’s historic craftsmanship and structural identity.

Updated Systems and Interiors
To support the building’s new role as a coworking environment, the renovation introduced all-new plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and sprinkler systems, along with an elevator and new fire protection. Energy-efficient windows and storefront systems improved performance while new finishes, heart pine flooring on the second floor, and an epoxy finish on the first floor brought the interiors up to current standards. The result is a refined, functional workplace that blends sleek interiors with preserved historic materials.
