High-Voltage Powerline Rerouting
A 40,000-volt electrical line ran directly through the middle of the site – a major constraint to progress. Rather than delay construction, Choate strategically re-phased operations to safely work around the line while grading the site, building a 35-foot retaining wall, installing underground conduits, pulling new wire, and tying into a new switch gear system. Once rerouted, the existing overhead line was safely demolished, all without impacting critical milestones.
Rock Repurposing and Site Stewardship
Excavation revealed 65,000 CY of classified rock, a potential cost driver that became an opportunity. The project team crushed and reused the rock onsite, integrating it into geogrid reinforcement for the retaining wall and balancing the site.
