Trade Partner Q&A
Have questions about getting started with Choate? Below, you’ll find answers to common trade partner questions, from prequalification and pricing opportunities to staying connected with our teams.
What does Choate look for in a trade partner?
We look for partners who are skilled, reliable, safety-minded, schedule-driven, and committed to quality work. Just as important, we value teams that communicate early, solve challenges with us, and understand that great projects are built through strong relationships.
How do I become a Choate trade partner?
The first step is completing Choate’s Trade Partner Prequalification General Inquiry. This helps our Risk Management team understand your capabilities, service areas, project experience, quality commitment, schedule compliance, and where your company may be the right fit for upcoming opportunities.
Why does prequalification matter?
Prequalification helps Choate match the right partners with the right opportunities. It also gives our teams the information needed to evaluate scope, capacity, safety practices and performance, financial strength, and project fit before preconstruction pricing begins.
What happens after I submit my information on the Prequalification General Inquiry form?
- Your submission will be reviewed by Choate’s prequalification team.
- Your W-9 will be sent to accounting to set up a vendor number and your company’s licensing status will be confirmed with the Secretary of State.
- You will receive a request from certificates@choateco.com with a sample certificate of insurance and list of endorsements. We recommend you send these to your insurance agent. Your agent is welcome to contact our certificates team directly with any questions.
- For scopes wherein prequalification is required, your prequalification contact will receive an invite via TradeTapp. The invite will contain a link to prequalify, as well as helpful links with instructions to set up a BuildingConnected account and complete a prequalification submission.
How will I hear about upcoming opportunities?
Once your company is prequalified, we can connect you with opportunities that align with your trade, location, and capabilities. Project teams may reach out directly via BuildingConnected when your company is a strong fit. Likewise, we encourage our trade partners to reach out to a member of our preconstruction team nearest you.
Does prequalification guarantee pricing opportunities?
Prequalification does not guarantee projects, but it helps our preconstruction team understand who you are and where your team may align with future opportunities.
How can I stay connected after prequalifying?
Keep your company information current in TradeTapp and BuildingConnected. Likewise, continue building relationships with Choate teams in your market. The more we understand your capabilities, the better we can identify where your company may be a strong fit.
Who should I contact with questions?
If you have questions about prequalification, reach out to prequal@choateco.com. For upcoming pricing opportunities, reach out to a member of your local market’s Choate preconstruction team.

Celebrating Successes & Strong Relationships
Trade Partner Appreciation Events
Each Choate office hosts annual trade partner appreciation events to honor those who are the backbone of what we build. These events provide an opportunity to foster stronger relationships and are a show of gratitude for their continued dedication.

Project Milestone Celebrations
Project milestone celebrations recognize meaningful points in the life of a project, such as topping out, completing a major phase, or reaching an important safety or schedule achievement. These moments bring Choate, our trade partners, clients, and project teams together to recognize the teamwork behind the build and the shared commitment it takes to reach each milestone safely and successfully.

Safety-Focused Events
Safety standdowns create intentional moments for our teams and our trade partners to pause, address key risks, and reinforce safe practices around topics like heat awareness, fire prevention, mental health, and fall protection. These conversations help keep safety top of mind and ensure every person is prepared to return home safely at the end of the day.
