Protecting What Matters Most

Every day, thousands of people step onto jobsites across the country, each with someone counting on them to return home safely. That responsibility is why we take safety personally. No project, deadline, or bottom line is more important than the well-being of the people who trust us with their lives.

Everyone Goes Home Safely

OneLife to Live

At Choate, safety starts with a simple belief: you only have OneLife to live. It shapes how we plan work, speak up for one another, and make sure every person leaves the jobsite safely.

OneLife, Choate’s safety identity, was created in 2015 as a proactive response to the personal, behavioral, and technical factors that shape jobsite safety. It reflects a shift beyond compliance to a shared commitment, connecting safe work to what matters most: our coworkers, our families, our futures, and the lives we lead beyond the jobsite.

Safety Planned from the Start

Safe work begins long before boots hit the jobsite. During preconstruction, Choate builds safety into logistics, sequencing, procurement, and scheduling to identify risks early and clarify expectations.

Prevention Through Design

A focus on Prevention Through Design takes that planning further. Our team works with design partners to improve constructability and reduce risk while decisions are still being made.

Furthermore, our approach to Safety at Design is grounded in the widely accepted Hierarchy of Controls. We look for ways to eliminate hazards or replace higher-risk methods with safer alternatives, helping reduce field disruptions, rework, and last-minute coordination issues for a safer, more predictable construction experience.

TOOLS & TECHNOLOGY

Building Smarter. Building Safer.

We believe the best safety program is one that actually works for the people using it.

We’re always looking for better tools and more proactive approaches to keeping everyone safe on the jobsite and beyond. The technology we invest in reflects our commitment: practical, people-first, and built to get ahead of risk before it becomes reality.

Advanced camera systems help monitor and protect the jobsite in real time. And on every project, FLIR thermal imaging cameras give our teams the ability to detect heat, electrical, and structural issues that aren't visible to the naked eye, catching potential issues early and keeping everyone out of harm's way.

SafeGuard, smart wearable technology, is used to proactively monitor heat stress and alert employee-owners before a situation becomes too dangerous – not after.

Protecting the Whole Person

Safety goes beyond physical hazards. Stress, fatigue, and mental health challenges directly affect focus and decision-making. Wellness initiatives, Employee Assistance Programs, mental health-focused safety stand-downs, and therapy access for employees and their families keep our teams supported, on and off the clock.
